Hamsters are popular with children because of their round bodies, tiny paws and fluffy cheeks. Therefore, they make especially sweet characters for colouring activities.

Children can use realistic shades of brown, golden, grey, black or white. Alternatively, they could create pink, blue, purple or rainbow-coloured hamsters.

Print one page for a quick activity or download the complete collection. You could also place several pictures in a folder to create a homemade hamster colouring book.

Here are some fun facts about hamsters that you can share with your kids!

  1. Firstly, Hamsters have stretchy cheek pouches. They use them like shopping bags to carry food back to their nests. A Syrian hamster can store up to half its body weight in its cheeks!
  2. Secondly, their front teeth never stop growing. Hamsters need safe things to gnaw so their teeth stay healthy and do not become too long.
  3. Additionally, Hamsters are night-time explorers. They usually sleep during the day and become active in the evening or at night.
  4. Fourthly, wild hamsters can run a very long way. They may travel up to five miles in one night while searching for food.
  5. Finally, Hamsters hide food for later. They often carry food to their nest and create a secret food store called a larder.

How to Download the Hamster Colouring Pages

Firstly, choose the hamster picture that you would like to colour. Next, select the download button beneath the image.

Open the downloaded file and print it on A4 paper. Standard printer paper works well with crayons and colouring pencils.

However, slightly thicker paper may be better for felt-tip pens or paint. Before printing, check that your printer is set to the correct paper size. Select ‘fit to page’ if part of the design is missing.

Creative Ways to Use These Hamster Printables

These free pages can become part of several fun hamster activities.

For example, children could cut out their finished hamsters and place them inside a homemade hamster home. They could then add tunnels, toys, food bowls and a cosy sleeping area.

Alternatively, children could give each hamster a name. Afterwards, encourage them to invent a short story about the hamster’s adventures.

Another idea is to turn the pages into a colouring book. Simply print several designs, add a cover and staple the pages together.

Finally, you can laminate a favourite picture. As a result, your child can colour it again with suitable washable or dry-wipe pens.
