Children can use traditional shades of red, brown, black, cream or yellow. Alternatively, they could create pink, blue, purple or rainbow-coloured Highland cows.

Print one page for a quick activity or download the complete collection. You could also place several pictures in a folder to create a homemade Highland cow colouring book.

Here are some fun facts about highland cows that you can share with your kids!

1. Firstly, Highland cows come from Scotland. The breed began in the rugged Highlands and western islands, where the weather can be cold, wet and windy. 
2. Secondly, they wear two furry coats. A soft inner layer keeps them warm, while their long outer hair helps protect them from rain and snow. 
3. Additionally, their fluffy fringe has a special name. The long hair across a Highland cow’s forehead is called a dossan. 
4. Fourthly, they are not always ginger. Highland cattle can also be black, white, yellow, dun or brindle. 
5. Finally, a group of Highland cattle is called a fold. Long ago, farmers kept them in stone shelters called folds to protect them from bad weather and wolves.

How to Download the Highland Cow Colouring Pages

Firstly, choose the Highland cow picture that you would like to colour. Next, select the download button beneath the image.

Open the downloaded file and print it on A4 paper. Standard printer paper works well with crayons and colouring pencils.

However, slightly thicker paper may be better for felt-tip pens or paint. Before printing, check that your printer is set to the correct paper size. Select ‘fit to page’ if part of the design is missing.

Creative Ways to Use These Highland Cow Printables

These free pages can become part of several fun farm activities.

For example, children could cut out their finished Highland cows and place them on a homemade countryside background. They could then add mountains, stone walls, flowers, grass and fluffy clouds.
